Cardinal Nation’s Matt Holliday: My Story

Darth Holliday

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it makes me giddy with excitement.

Baseball season if officially here.

In Cardinal Nation, otherwise known as St. Louis, Missouri,  this means fifty cent drinks at Mobile on the Run every time the Cards score six or more points in a game. This little fact has helped turn my boys into observant fans of the game and the players.

In our home, baseball season means listening to late afternoon games on the radio while finishing school work; one of the many perks of homeschooling.

I’m hoping Farm Boy is able to score occasional tickets for us to use the company suite. Sweet! His company has been very generous to us over the years. Our boys will never forget the luxury of watching ballgames from the comfort of a private suite. Food, air conditioning on sticky hot, St. Louis, summer days and a close view of the field in private covered outdoor seating.

If you have not taken the tour of Busch Stadium you are missing out on impressive St. Louis history and vast Cardinal trivia.  Do you know how Mike Shannon became the Cardinal’s announcer and do you know what he sits on while announcing? Have you seen the private eating venues within the stadium? Do you know the progression of how the Cardinal emblem has changed over the years? Do you know how Bill DeWitt became an owner of the Cardinals? I’m not telling! I highly recommend the tour.  It provides behind the scene information along with access to parts of the stadium you would never see with general paid admission. The tour guides are friendly, knowledgeable and proud of their home team players and staff.

St. Louis is wonderfully spoiled with several of the best players in baseball and Matt Holliday is one of those players. I have never met him but we grew up in the same hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma, so I have extra reason to enjoy following him.

Matt may not realize it but he is actually my brother. We have the same Father and, no, I’m not being scandalous!

Here is Matt Holliday’s story which revolves around his relationship with our Father.
